Uppercut Labs is a British creative and branding studio working remotely with brands worldwide. Design and engineering under one roof — from the first sketch of a brand to the product it ends up in.
The studio
Most studios design or build. We do both, in the same place, on the same project — so what gets designed is exactly what gets shipped.
The studio exists because the internet got boring. Worn-out agencies regurgitating the same templates, dev shops shipping software that looks like nothing, design agencies handing over decks that never survive the build. Uppercut Labs closes that gap: brand identity, software, and AI Enhancement, held to one standard — built properly, or not at all.
We work remotely with clients across the UK and worldwide, and we build our own products too — because a studio that only ever ships for other people never has to live with its own work.
The founder
Uppercut Labs was founded by Lawrence ‘Ted’ Murdoch.
Ted has been building since he was 12 — first websites, first experiments, teaching himself by taking things apart and rebuilding them better. What started as curiosity became a career, and what held it all together was a passion for design: the conviction that how something looks and feels is not decoration, it's part of whether it works.
That's the standard the studio runs on. Ted works directly on every project — no account managers, no layers between you and the person doing the work. The internet should be exciting, and anyone should be able to get a website that tells a story.
The path
Age 12
Started building — first websites, first experiments, pulling things apart to see how they worked and putting them back together better.
The obsession
Somewhere along the way, building things became inseparable from designing them. Code that works but looks like nothing was never the point.
